Two people have died in The japanese after having received doses of the Moderna vaccine from a batch that was suspended like a precaution after some of the vials were contaminated with not known foreign material.

The victims had been men in their 30s, all of whom received their 2nd Moderna doses from one of three manufacturing lots which were suspended on Thursday, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. An investigation into the cause of fatalities is underway.

Japan’s rollout of more than 1 . 63 million doses was halted after the vaccine’s domestic distributor, Takeda, alerted the government in regards to the foreign material discovered in 39 unused vials. All polluted doses were manufactured in a Madrid factory run by a Spanish firm Rovi, which usually said that the vials under consideration belonged to a batch solely shipped to Japan.

The composition from the foreign substance was not instantly clear. However , Japan’s TV channel NHK reported that some doses were contaminated with metal particles, citing Health Ministry sources.
