Massive crowds have inundated the streets of Bucharest, protesting against vaccination passports, curfews for the unvaccinated, and other newly introduced restrictions targeted at slowing the spread associated with coronavirus in Romania.
An estimated 15, 000 people gathered within University Square and Triumph Square outside government workplaces in Bucharest on Saturday, chanting ‘ Freedom with no certificates’ and ‘ Lower with the government. ‘
The latest round of restrictions came into effect on Weekend, limiting access to entertainment sites, as well as introducing weekend curfews for unvaccinated individuals.
Authorities also issued mask mandates for interior and outdoor public areas in areas with more than six coronavirus cases per one, 000 residents, including the capital.

Romania, which is home to some 19 million people, ranks second-lowest for vaccinations across the 27-member state EU bloc, with less than 28% of the inhabitants vaccinated with two doses. On Tuesday, Romania began ‘ recommending’ a booster jab, and sought to help make vaccinations mandatory for doctors and other healthcare staff.
With a total of just one. 24 million officially recorded cases and some 37, 000 deaths since the beginning of the outbreak, Romania has seen a pointy spike in new infections in the last weeks, as authorities fright hospitals will soon go out of intensive care models.
Meanwhile, in Italy, some 48, 000 people hit the streets for the ninth consecutive weekend associated with protests.
