Police in Maryland are looking for a suspect who opened fire on a shopping center through the sunroof of a passing car last week, wounding a 12-year-old girl.
The harrowing incident unfolded at around 6: 35 p. m. on October 8 in Capitol Heights, MD, a suburb of Washington D. C.
Surveillance footage released by local authorities shows a suspect discharging a firearm from the rooftop of a sedan as it passes by a small shopping center on Marlboro Pike.
“ Preliminarily, the investigation revealed the victim was waiting for food inside of a restaurant when she was shot, ” the Prince George’s County Police Department explained in a statement .
“ Police do not believe the young girl was the intended target. In the surveillance video, the shooter is seen standing out from the car’s sunroof, shooting toward a row of companies. ”
The young victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with ‘ critical injuries, ‘ according to local media .
