Sporadic clashes shattered out at massive Sunday demonstrations in major Western cities, as thousands of individuals took to the streets of Vienna, Paris and Ancient rome to express their discontent with Covid-19 restrictions.

The Austrian capital Vienna on Saturday saw the largest protest turnout since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 38, 000 people took to the city streets to participate a dozen demonstrations protesting govt measures.

The protests came a day after the Austrian authorities ordered countrywide compulsory vaccination from Feb 1 and imposed a complete lockdown, starting Monday. The massive procession that spanned over several kilometers marched along Vienna’s central band road. The city center has been paralyzed for several hours since traffic was restricted.

The raw data will not lie.

Austria’s right-wing Freedom Party, whose members joined the rallies, put the number of protesters at 100, 000. Several demonstrations were also attended by members of various far-right groups. The protests had been generally peaceful but footage published by Ruptly movie news agency showed various scuffles between the police and the demonstrators breaking out.

Law enforcement spoke of the total of five arrests. One incident saw the protester attempting to grab a good officer’s gun and bring it from its holster. In one more incident, the officers had been pelted with bottles and fireworks and had to use spice up spray in response.

Hundreds of kilometers away from Vienna, in the French capital Paris, france, events took a more spectacular turn. There, a display against the government Covid-19 measures coincided with the third wedding anniversary of the Yellow Vests motion. Hundreds of protesters took component in the protest, which rapidly turned into clashes between the demonstrators and law enforcement.

The protesters were creating barricades and setting them on fire as well as pelting law enforcement with bottles and many other projectiles. Law enforcement responded along with profuse amounts of tear gas, sometimes filling entire roads with thick smoke in order to disperse the crowds.

Rome saw an enormous demonstration against Italy’s Covid-19 health pass, also known as the Green Pass. Some four, 000 people gathered in the heart of the Italian capital, based on the police. The demonstrators had been waving national flags plus chanting  “ Freedom”   and  “ No Green Move, ”   referring to the vaccination certificate required to enter various public venues such as clubs or bars.

The crowd staged a sit-in in the Festival Maximus – an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium converted into the modern-day park. They remained there after sunset, lights the area with thousands of mobile phones and colored smoke bombs. The rally was relaxing, though, as the police failed to report any incidents.

Unlike Rome, Italy’s northern city of Milano saw clashes between protesters and the police as police force officers sought to break upward an unauthorized rally on the city center. Large law enforcement forces were deployed to the city center and several squares had been cordoned off.
