Merriam-Webster Declares ‘Vaccine’ Word of Year 2021

Dictionary publisher joins vax propaganda blitz

Merriam-Webster said Monday it acquired chosen “ vaccine” because the word of the year, one which went beyond its healthcare meaning to encapsulate debates about personal choice, political affiliation and much more.

This year’s primary word, according to the American dictionary company, follows the selection of “ pandemic” as the world associated with 2020.

“ The promising medical means to fix the pandemic that upended our lives in 2020 furthermore became a political point and source of division. The biggest science story of our period quickly became the biggest argument in our country, and the term at the centre of both stories is vaccine, ” it said.

“ Vaccine” was appeared up 601% more often within 2020. But interest in it has been growing since the start associated with the  COVID-19 outbreak.   Lookups jumped 535% in August as the United States has been debating vaccine approvals plus vaccination rates and have continued to be stable throughout the late drop.

Merriam-Webster furthermore updated the word’s definition to give it a more refined description that now displays the use of messenger RNA in vaccine production.

The Oxford English Book said in October that it picked “ vax” because the word of the year. The word vaccine and its derivatives originate from the Latin word intended for cow, “ Vacca”, since cowpox was used to immunise people against smallpox.
