For many years now I have been directing out that there is a false public perception of the partnership between governments and corporations.
In the past the belief has been that government is supposed to keep private business in check while private business is supposed to limit govt intrusion through the assertion of property rights. But when it comes to major corporations there is no such game of balance. In fact, international conglomerates like The disney produtcions generally do whatever they will please because they are PARTNERS with government.
For reasons uknown, certain companies are afforded unique treatment by state and federal organizations and what this does is generate problems. This is not a free marketplace system, rather, it is socialist and monopolistic. Subsidies and incentives can sometimes be used to encourage business growth, but when these are afforded to only a tiny handful of mega-corporations the result is the opposite; the growth of competitors is stifled and little to medium businesses can never be able to compete with the leaders that have already garnered federal government protection.
Really interesting to me that the political left, which was once apparently anti-big business, is now instantly so enamored with business oligarchy to the point that they rabidly defend it as long as all those companies espouse woke rhetoric. What this confirms is usually something that conservatives have often known – That leftists don’t have any concrete principles or morals, they only worry about winning no matter the cost.
I 2020 I published an article suggesting a potential solution to Big Tech and woke corporate censorship of conventional ideas: That solution will be for conservative state governments to take away the very bonuses and subsidies that they usually use to entice these businesses straight into setting up shop within their borders.
