Desantis Designates Nov. 7 “Victims of Communism Day”

‘We want to make sure that every year folks in Florida, yet particularly our students, learn about the evils of communism. ‘

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday authorized legislation proclaiming November seven “ Victims of The reds Day. ”

Discussing the expenses ( H. M. 395 ) ahead of signing, the governor said he was honored to commemorate the millions of people with died as a result of the failed far left political ideology, and said he anticipated Florida students learning about the evils of Communism.

“ Today I am signing L. B. 395 which will formally designate November 7th since Victims of Communism Day time to honor the more compared to 100 million people who have fallen victim to communist routines across the world, ” DeSantis stated during a signing ceremony on Miami’s Freedom Tower.

“ We want to make sure that every year folks in Fl, but particularly our learners, will learn about the evils of communism, the dictators which have led communist regimes, and the hundreds of millions of individuals who suffered and continue to suffer underneath the weight of this discredited ideology. ”

“ There are a lot of people out there who will advertise things like socialism and the reds, but I think one of the things we saw is a lot of people whom don’t really know that a lot about what communism is meant in practice and continues to mean in different parts of the world. ”

The governor decried the oppression of the communist Cuban regime, which has prompted many people to flee to the US and seek political asylum in Florida.

“ From 1959 in order to 1974, more than 650, 500 Cubans came to the United States to get to flee the oppressive communist regime of Fidel Castro. Many of them came to South Florida either by plane or by boat, and when they landed, they would be taken right here to the Freedom Tower system where they receive support and began their brand new life in the United States, ” mentioned DeSantis.

DeSantis also went on to condemn modern socialists and people who politically identify as communists because ignorant of the plight of the people living under harsh communist dictatorships.

“ You can see at a university campus students flying the particular hammer and sickle through the old Soviet Union flag. You will see students that will have got t-shirts with Guevara within the t-shirts. You will see students that will idolize people like Mao Zedong – that to me speaks of a tremendous lack of knowledge about what those individuals symbolized and the evils that communism inflicted on people throughout the world, ” he said.

Therefore , this legislation will make sure which our students and people throughout the State of Florida are reminded about the atrocities committed simply by Mao Zedong when he or she led communist China he had tens of millions of people die due to the communist ideology, things like the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution – and of course China continues to be the leading force of oppression around the world – but that will body count of Mao is something that everybody needs to understand because it is a direct result of this communist ideology.

The legislation also ensures that students learn about people like Lenin and Stalin and the tyranny of the Soviet Union exactly where they had millions and millions of people vanish into KGB prisons, or Siberian gulags. I want to be sure that people understand the atrocities of somebody like Pol Container, the communist dictator associated with Cambodia who carried out the genocide of nearly two hundred million, or excuse me 2 million, in the killing areas. And I know we no longer need legislation here to get this done, but I think it’s our responsibility to make sure people know about the atrocities committed simply by people like Fidel Castro and even more recently people like Nicholas Maduro. We realize that in South Florida, we would like to make sure everybody throughout all of Florida understands that so this is actually, really significant.

The bill also allocates $25 mil to fund the restoration of the Freedom Tower standing on the particular Miami-Dade College campus, which usually served as the “ Ellis Island of the South” throughout the 60s and 70s through which most Cuban political political refugees were processed.
