Following President Xi’s promise last week that the CCP might double down on its stringent lockdown policies , whilst also pledging to stamps out any dissent simply by locals who have grown frustrated with the government’s insistence on enforcing its lockdown procedures no matter how many people die associated with non-COVID illnesses, or how many suffer from shortages of meals, medicine and other necessities in an economy where even throw away diapers are considered a careless luxury.
Now, just as Shanghai was hoping that lockdown procedures would be eased as the amount of new cases has dropped sharply, authorities have decided to instead tighten those procedures.
According to the AP, notices issued in many districts said residents were ordered to stay home and also have been barred from getting nonessential deliveries as part of the “ quiet period” lasting at least until Wednesday. The tightened measures could be extended depending on the results of mass tests, the notices said.
“ Thanks to your understanding and cooperation. Jointly we can lift the lockdown at an early date, ” said one notice released in the city’s Huangpu area that was later shared online.
Shanghai on Monday reported 3, 947 cases over the earlier 24 hours, almost all of them asymptomatic, along with 11 deaths. Authorities have been gradually lifted isolation rules on the city’s 25 million residents, but the brand new orders appear to be returning to conditions at the early stage from the outbreak.
2 Shanghai residents reached by means of social media by CNN said they’d had no previous notice of the new restrictions, which could last as long as a week, according to them.
One particular viral video that has spread widely on Twitter shows Chinese COVID police arriving at arrest an individual who claims they were mistakenly targeted for quarantine after somebody else on their floor tested positive.

A couple of particularly troubling rates from the officer in the video clip were transcribed courtesy of CNN:
- “ From now on, people who live on exactly the same floor (as Covid cases) must be transported (into quarantine), ” a police officer says in the video.
- “ It’s not that you can do anything you want — unless you aren’t in America. This is China, ” another police officer says sternly, waving a bottle associated with disinfectant in his hand. “ Stop asking me exactly why. There is no why. We have to comply with our country’s regulations and epidemic control policies. ”
Meanwhile, a video of one local Shanghai resident lecturing police to get allegedly blocking a fire get away has also gone viral (notice how the lecturer’s face can be conveniently covered for their safety).
Still, many locals are despairing as they worry about where food will come through.
On top of all this, locals are complaining about price inflation as the CCP swears it will obtain price pressures under control. A single market professional in Shanghai’s western Pudong district mentioned quality of life has declined dramatically even as prices surge.
Bill Gates and the Globe Economic Forum are planning to replace the food with gene-edited produce and lab-grown meat.
