Another virus, another mask! Brand new Yorkers told to mask up again

Local patient tests GOOD for same genus virus as monkeypox; CDC issues alert and WHO calls emergency meeting after US probes six cases whilst Europe confirms 100

An NYC patient has examined positive for the same genus virus as monkeypox  sparking phone calls from the health department just for residents to wear masks inside – just as New Yorkers were finally returning to mask-free normalcy after COVID-19.

The CDC is still waiting for confirmation that it can be monkeypox, after the patient examined positive for orthopoxvirus –   the genus of viruses that includes smallpox, cowpox, horsepox, camelpox, and monkeypox.

City authorities say a second possible monkeypox patient tested negative for the virus.

The health department is usually encouraging New Yorkers to wear face masks to protect against the new virus outbreak, along with COVID-19 and the flu. Monkeypox primarily spreads through actual contact but can also be transmitted through respiratory droplets up.

Meanwhile, the CDC  issued an alert Friday urging doctors and wellness departments to be ‘ vigilant’ for cases of monkeypox amid increased global spread.

The World Wellness Organization (WHO) held an urgent situation meeting on Friday to talk about the recent ‘ unprecedented’ outbreak after over 100 cases were confirmed or suspected in Europe.

In what Australia described as the largest outbreak within Europe ever, cases are actually reported in at least nine countries – Belgium, Italy, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Spain, Sweden and the UK – as well as the U. S i9000., Canada and Australia.
