“It Was The Wrong Decision” – Officers Waited To Engage Tx Shooter Because “They Might have been Shot”

Update (1250ET):   In a very emotional plus defensive press conference this morning, Texas DPS Director Steven McCraw admitted said your decision of officers to wait to enter the building was the “ wrong” one.

“ In retrospect, from where I am sitting from now, clearly there were kids within the room. It’s important for reside saving proposes to immediately get there and render help, ” McCraw said.

“ Of course it was not the right decision, it was the wrong decision. ”

Officials acknowledged many imperfections in the response to the Uvalde school shooting saying law enforcement officers should have gone in instead of waiting, and that delay price lives of children.

It was the wrong decision, extremely wrong.   There’s no excuse for that. … Whenever there’s an active shooter, the rules change. There is no longer a barricaded subject. You don’t have period, ” he said.

McCraw added that  “ if I thought it might help, I would apologize. ”

As The Epoch Times’ Caden Pearsen detailed earlier, Texas   Department of Public Basic safety (DPS) official has said  officers “ might have been shot” if they engaged the gunman holed up with his victims in a classroom from Robb Elementary School   before  a specialist technical team arrived.

Authorities on Thursday sketched out a timeline of events from when  18-year-old Salvador Ramos crashed their vehicle to when this individual entered the Texas college at around 11. forty a. m. and slaughtered 19 students and two teachers.

But it wasn’t until almost 1 p. m. that Ramos had been killed and the duress was over, around ninety minutes later.

Questions have been elevated amid mounting public frustration and scrutiny about the response of law enforcement as more information emerge about the timeline associated with events.

Texas DPS spokesman Lt.   Chris Olivarez mentioned the first priority for officers in an active shooter circumstance is to stop the eliminating and preserve life.

“ But also one thing that will, of course , the American individuals need to understand, is that officials are making entry into this particular building. They do not know in which the gunman is, ”   Oliverez told CNN.

“ They are hearing gunshots. They are receiving gunshots. At that point, if they proceeded any more not knowing where the suspect had been at, they could’ve been shot, they could’ve been killed, and at that point, that gunman would have had an chance to kill other people inside that school. ”

Oliverez said their response intended the shooter was contained in the classroom and unable to get to “ any other portions of the school  to commit every other killings. ”

While around three officers who also had entered the school through the same door as the gunman were taking fire plus calling for backup, around four others who got entered from another portion of the school were evacuating learners and teachers,   Oliverez said.

After the tactical team from U. S. Border Patrol appeared, he said they utilized a ballistic shield pertaining to cover as they entered the classroom and killed the particular shooter.

Authorities on Thursday largely ignored questions during a contentious briefing regarding why officers had not been capable to stop the shooter faster.

Victor Escalon, regional director for your Texas Department of Open public Safety, told reporters he had “ taken all those queries into consideration” and would offer updates later.

One point Escalon clarified based on the information he previously at the time was that there were simply no armed officers at the school at the time  Ramos moved into “ unobstructed. ”

“ No, no, there was clearly not an officer readily available, equipped. No, ”   the Texas DPS official said in response to a reporter’s question on Thursday night afternoon.

This contradicted previously information from authorities.
