U. S. specialists have intercepted vessels transporting hundreds of illegal aliens in the Florida Keys in recent days amid surging migration in the Caribbean, according to reports.
Miami Sector Border Patrol Chief Walter N. Slosar has announced landings of migrant boats nearly every time in the past week, which began with a very busy holiday weekend .
On Thursday, 12 adult males from Cuba reached Sugarloaf Key, Agent Slosar reported.
On Tuesday night, 10 migrants from Cuba arrived at Higgs Beach in Key West in “ a home made vessel constructed of Styrofoam. ”
“ The U. S. Coastline Guard returned 223 U. S. -bound migrants returning to Haiti and Cuba upon Tuesday after detaining eight migrant boats at sea during the Memorial Day weekend break, ” the Miami Herald reported on Wednesday.
“ The vessels were ended between Friday afternoon and Sunday off the Florida Secrets, the Bahamas and Haiti as U. S. professionals report the largest exodus of Haitian boat refugees given that 2004 and of Cuban ‘ balseros’ since 2016. ”
Agent Slosar shared pictures on social media from some of the other migrant landings in the last week.
On May 27, the U. S. Coast Guard stopped a “ grossly overloaded” vessel transporting 146 Haitian nationals around 45 miles southeast associated with Islamorada.
The migrants were rapidly repatriated to Cap-Haitien, Haiti.
A lot more than 5, 000 Haitians have been interdicted by Coast Safeguard crews since October 1, and border agents “ responded to 116 migrant landings in Florida with nearly 1600 encounters” during the same period.
