Actor Matthew McConaughey appeared at a White Home press briefing Tuesday to call for a range of gun manage proposals, echoing some of Joe Biden’s gun control talking points.
“ As I said, this second is different, ” McConaughey informed reporters at the White House press briefing room. “ We are in a window of opportunity today that we have not been in just before. A window in where it seems like real change — real change can happen. ”
After McConaughey, a Ulvade native, released into an impassioned presentation lamenting the Robb Elementary school shooting that wiped out 19 students and two teachers in his hometown, he offered up similar gun control measures Joe Biden had advocated for days prior .
“ We need accountable gun ownership, ” McConaughey said. “ We need background checks. We need to raise the minimal age to purchase an AR-15 rifle to 21. We require a waiting period for all those rifles. We need red flag laws, and consequences for those who abuse them . These are sensible practical tactical regulations. ”
Unbeknownst to McConaughey, firearm retailers are actually required to conduct background checks whenever guns are purchased in their shops.
“ Accountable gun owners are fed up, ” McConaughey claimed. “ These regulations are not one step back; they are a step forwards for a civil society and the Second Amendment. ”
Imposing gun manage measures “ should not be a partisan issue, ” this individual added.
The particular “ Dazed and Confused” actor had previously required a total ban on “ assault weapons” in 2018 during an anti-Second Change March for Our Lives occasion.
