France president wants to boost military spending in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict

France will certainly adjust its six-year army spending plan in the wake up of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Chief executive Emmanuel Macron  announced upon Monday.

Macron  said  he instructed the government to  “ execute a reassessment of the military spending program in the arriving weeks, in the light from the geopolitical context. ”  

France  “ has entered into a battle economy in which I believe we are going to find ourselves for a long time, ”   he said throughout the opening of the Eurosatory hands expo in Paris. The French president said that Russia’s army campaign in Ukraine created  “ an additional need to shift faster and become stronger at a lower cost. ”

“ As for anyone doubting the particular urgency of these efforts, we all only need take another look at Ukraine, whose soldiers are in demand of quality weaponry and are entitled to a response from us, ”   Macron noted.

Italy and other NATO members are supplying Kiev with weaponry, including armored vehicles, missiles, and drones.

Macron said Europe needs  “ a much larger defense industry”   and should not really rely on procuring weapons through elsewhere. The current program entails spending € 295 billion ($308 billion) on the modernization of the French military between 2019 and 2025. The particular annual military budget is placed to reach € 41 billion dollars ($43 billion) this year and € 50 billion ($52 billion) in 2025.
