Revise (1341ET): Five people were dead and 16 others wounded any time a gunman opened fire on the Fourth of July parade that kicked off Mon afternoon in Highland Recreation area, a city in the southeastern part of Lake County, The state of illinois, according to the Chicago Sun-Times .

Debbie Glickman, another resident, told Associated Press she was on a parade float whenever she turned around and saw people running away from the location.

Several witnesses said they will heard multiple shots terminated. One witness said he counted more than 20 pictures.
Miles Zaremski, a Highland Park resident, told the Sun-Times: “ I noticed 20 to 25 pictures, which were in rapid succession. So it couldn’t have been only a handgun or a shotgun. ”
Zaremski said that after the shots at Central Avenue around Second Avenue in the downtown area Highland Park, he noticed “ people in that region that got shot, ” including “ a woman protected with blood… She did not survive . ”

Police were patrolling the area with rifles, apparently looking for whoever terminated the shots.
Adrienne Drell, a former Sun-Times reporter, mentioned she was sitting on a curb along Central Avenue watching the parade whenever she noticed members of the Highland Recreation area High School marching band begin to run.
“ Go to Sunset, ” Drell said she heard the college students shout, directing people to nearby Sunset Food.
A guy picked her up off the curb and urged the girl to get out , Drell said.
“ The The state of illinois State Police is currently assisting Highland Park PD by having an active shoot situation that will occurred at the Highland Recreation area Parade, ” tweeted the police. “ The public is advised to prevent the area of Central Ave and 2nd St . within Highland Park. ”
