“ After a comprehensive review of all of the evidence and the relevant legal authority, the U. Ersus. Attorney’s Office for the Region of Columbia has driven that it cannot move forward with misdemeanor charges of unlawful entry against the nine individuals who were arrested on 06 16, 2022 at the Longworth Office Building, ” the Oughout. S. Attorney’s office had written in a statement.

The U. S. attorney stated that because the nine staffers were not asked to leave, they could not be billed with the same crime Trump supporters have been thrown in one confinement for since The month of january 6. “ The people, who entered the building on two separate occasions, had been invited by Congressional staffers to enter the building within each instance and had been never asked to depart by the staffers who asked them, though, members from the crew had been told at different points by the U. S. Capitol Police that they were supposed to have an escort, ” the statement continued.

“ The Office will be required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these invited guests were guilty of the criminal offense of unlawful entry since their escort chose to depart them unattended. We tend not to believe it is probable that the Office would be able to obtain and sustain convictions on these charges. The defendants no longer is going to be required to appear for a scheduled hearing in the Superior Courtroom of the District of Columbia on July 20, 2022. ”

The us Capitol Police (USCP) launched a statement saying they “ respect the decision that will office has made” plus referred any questions about the decision to the U. S. Attorney’s Office,   Fox News reported.

Colbert’s crew reportedly tried to gain entrance to the January 6 committee’s public hearings, but they had been denied on grounds of being considered entertainment, not news.

According to law enforcement, the Colbert staffers had been charged with unlawful entry after being found performing “ disruptive, loud” plus “ theatrical” near the workplace of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) and Jake Auchincloss (D-MA).

An aide to Auchincloss reportedly let the group back in the Longworth Building after they had been escorted out.
