Saudi Crown Prince Touches Base with Putin After Unproductive Biden Visit

The Kremlin revealed on Thursday that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, identified commonly as MBS, kept a phone conversation with Russian strongman Vladimir Putin to discuss “ stability” within global oil markets, per week after leftist American President Joe Biden visited Riyadh to, reportedly, request the Saudis consider increasing creation.

Whilst Biden  denied   that asking for a lot more Saudi oil — most probably to help lower gasoline costs at home without allowing American oil companies to drill down more — was not the purpose of the visit, he left unclear exactly why he is at Riyadh last week in his  Washington Post   article on the matter, titled “ The reason why I’m Going to Saudi Arabia . ”

Biden did claim the visit would in some ways help “ counter Russia’s aggression” – a goal MBS appears to be undermining by increasing contact with Putin.

The visit has yet to produce any tangible benefits for the Usa and served – via an awkward  closed fist bump   among Biden and MBS – to normalize diplomatic friendship with Saudi Arabia, some thing Biden vowed he would not do on the campaign trail in 2020.

Putin and MBS reportedly talked about maintaining agreements between OPEC+ countries — members from the oil cartel and a good affiliated group including Russian federation — to “ sustain stability on the global marketplace, ” according to Russian news agency  Tass .

“ It was noted with satisfaction that countries — participants in this particular format are consistently fulfilling obligations undertaken for factors like maintaining the required balance plus stability on the global energy resources market” an official Kremlin statement on the call go through.
