THAT Chief Declares Monkeypox Outbreak Public Health Emergency associated with International Concern

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general from the World Health Organization (WHO), on Saturday declared the current monkeypox outbreak a open public health emergency of global concern.

“ For all of these factors, I have decided that the global  monkeypox outbreak signifies   a open public health emergency of worldwide concern, ” Ghebreyesus informed a media briefing following the meeting of the WHO Emergency Committee.

The THAT chief noted that although the outbreak is a public wellness emergency of international issue, “ for the moment this is an outbreak that is concentrated among men  who have sex   with men, especially those with multiple intimate partners. ” At the same time, this individual called on countries to work closely with the affected groups, stepping up awareness campaigns, plus warned against discrimination plus stigma.

“ That means that this is an break out that can be stopped with the right strategies in the right organizations, ” he added.

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease   that is usually transmitted to the people from wild animals and is endemic in some African countries. The condition can be transmitted through entire body fluids, respiratory droplets along with other contaminated materials. The disease generally results in fever, rash plus swollen lymph nodes.
