Whole North Carolina Police Department Resigns In Protest Over Progressive Town Manager

“Due to the hostile work environment now present in the Town of Kenly, I do not believe progress is possible, ” police key warns in letter

The whole North Carolina police department resigned Friday after a new town manager was hired.

Police officers along with other officials in the small town of Kenly submitted mass-resignation letters citing stress, a hostile work environment and a good inability to continue the department’s long-term betterment projects,   Fox News reports .

In the letter to Town Manager Justine Jones, Police Chief Josh Gibson expressed feel dissapointed toward the negative changes he felt were taking place in the department.

“ In my 21 yrs at the Kenly Police Department, we have seen ups and downs. But , especially in the last 3 years, we have made substantial progress that we had hoped to continue. However , due to the hostile work environment at this point present in the Town of Kenly, I do not believe progress is possible, ” Gibson published.

Gibson produced the  shocking statement in a Facebook post on Thursday , saying the assistant town manager along with a key clerk had joined up with him and his five officials in quitting in demonstration.

“ I got put in my 2 weeks discover along with the whole police dept., ” he wrote from the force he has served with for 21 years.

“ The new manager has created an environment I do not feel we can perform our duties and services towards the community, ” he wrote of Justine Jones, who seem to took up the  placement early last month .

Local outlets report that neither the authorities department nor Jones has been willing to speak to the mass media on the nature of these complaints.

Gibson’s notice was only one of a number of resignations that were made openly available after the mass exodus.

“ It really is with a heavy heart which i take this action. I have been using the town since 2004 plus fully expected to finish my law enforcement career with the City of Kenly. Unfortunately, you will find decisions being made that jeopardize my safety plus make me question what the future will hold for a Kenly Officer, ” wrote officer G. W. Strong.

While all others addressed their own resignations to Gibson, the police chief himself submitted his to Jones.

Jones was just hired as town manager last month after serving in various local government positions in other declares. Her new position had been celebrated by the Town associated with Kenly in a June press release.

She acquired started on June 2 after “ a nationwide search, ” according to a statement which said that “ Jones has dedicated her career to public service over the last 16 years where she worked in  slowly responsible positions with nearby governments in Minnesota, Va, South Carolina and North Carolina, ” the town wrote in the declaration. “ She began her municipal career as the Professional Assistant to the City Manager and National Urban Fellow in the City of Norfolk, Virginia. ”

The release did not mention, however ,   exactly how she had sued a previous employer in nearby South Carolina for racial elegance after she was fired in March 2015, according to WRAL.

The girl accused Richland County frontrunners of “ hostile” therapy and for not paying the girl fairly because she was black and had a impairment, court docs show. The girl also accused the region of discriminating against her because she was a “ whistleblower” who “ documented serious fraud, wrongdoing, plus violations of the law. ”

The suit was voluntarily dismissed within April 2017, court records display, without elaborating on precisely why. Before getting hired simply by Kenly, she listed their self as “ Principal CEO” of her own consulting business, Word of Mouth Realtime, her LinkedIn shows.

Law enforcement leadership and active duty officials were joined in their resignation by other officials.

“ I have truly enjoyed working for The Town the last four years. Due to the present situations and the stress in the work area lately, my priority is my health, and right now I need to focus on my wellbeing.   The work region is very hostile and I will not let myself be around that kind of atmosphere, ”   wrote   Christy Thomas, power clerk for the town associated with Kenly.

Several outgoing government employees held their messages curt and also to the point — including City Clerk Sharon Evans.

“ I will be retiring sooner than I had planned. This really is my two weeks notice currently. I can no longer work beneath the stress, ” wrote Evans.

Meanwhile, Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell assured WRAL that his deputies would be “ stepping up” to cover for the missing Kenly cops.
