Ukraine Issues Blacklist Of ‘Russian Propagandists’, Includes US Senator & Prominent Journalists

A number of notable international names are on the list

The Ukrainian government provides published a list of  political figures, academics, and activists exactly who it claims promote “ Russian propaganda”. Absurdly, it  includes high American authorities – even a sitting ALL OF US senator – and a Pulitzer Price winning journalist.

A Kiev government-linked agency called the Ukrainian  Center for Countering Disinformation  released the list earlier this month, identifying figures for example Republican Senator Rand Paul, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), military analyst Edward Luttwak, University of Chi town professor and international relationships theorist  John Mearsheimer, plus award-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, formerly of The Intercept, among any others.

A number of notable global names are on the list too, such as French populist political leader  Marine The Pen , or even a good Italian General named Common Leonardo Tricarico, who blames Ukraine for Russia’s attack and has urged immediate negotiations to end the war.

Some of those on the checklist, such as  Edward Luttwak, have actually loudly supported sending Western arms in order to Ukraine’s military. In Luttwak’s case, he was apparently deemed by Ukrainian officials a ‘ pro-Russian propagandist’ merely for proposing a war-time compromise of permitting referendums in the breakaway Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

According to  Unheard , the criteria for making the list has  not really been revealed :

The exact criteria for inclusion are also unclear,   although next to each name the particular report lists the “ pro Russian” opinions the person promotes . For example , Edward cullen Luttwak’s breach was in order to suggest that “ referendums should be held in the Donetsk plus Luhansk regions”; Mearsheimer’s breach is recorded as him saying that “ NATO has been in Ukraine since 2014” which “ NATO provoked Putin. ”

The relevant intellectuals were surprised and concerned to be included on a government blacklist in this way.

So it appears merely straying in any small way from the point of view of Ukrainian leadership gets one branded a “ pro-Russian” propagandist.

Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Glen Greenwald dismissed the new Ukrainian blacklist as but more “ standard McCarthyite idiocy” – telling  UnHerd  in  a statement

“ War proponents in the West and other functionaries of Western security condition agencies have used the same techniques for decades to demonize anybody questioning the foreign policy of the US and NATO. Chief among them, going back to the start of the Cold War, is certainly accusing any dissidents of spreading ‘ Russian propaganda’ or otherwise serving the Kremlin. That’s all this is through the Ukrainians:   just standard McCarthyite idiocy . ”

Greenwald followed with: “ The particular Ukrainians have the absolute right to pursue whatever war policies they want.   But when they start demanding that my country and the government use its assets to fuel their battle effort, then I, along with all other Americans, have the absolute right to question that policy in order to point out its dangers plus risks . I have a tendency care at all about Ukraine’s attempts to shut down issue in our country by covering journalists and politicians who are questioning US/NATO policy as being Russian propagandists. That tactic is as inconsequential as it is inexpensive, tawdry, and discredited. ”

Edward Luttwak also responded publicly, and ironically enough angrily lashed out while at the same time groveling in demonstration of how much he’s “ personally lobbied” foreign governments to send Kiev more weapons…

And Tulsi Gabbard’s response…

Interestingly, United states economist and left-leaning Teacher Jeffrey Sachs also made the list, presumably for their well-known critiques of US international policy and his urging for that Ukraine war to  end at the negotiating desk . Former UN weaponry inspector Scott Ritter can also be on the somewhat lengthy list of names, which can be  accessed here .
