Miami, Fl, may relocate the city’s homeless people to an encampment site on an offshore tropical isle that houses a waste materials water treatment plant.
On Thurs, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners will listen to a proposal from the town manager’s office that details building a homeless camp on Virginia Key island, near a hike and bicycle trail and the Central Area Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Plans for the get away were published online with the Daily Mail showing proposals for large dormitory-type tent structures, tiny home systems, or for more costly folding unit-type structures.
“ The plan offers a 50-room set-up within three of the tents, at $719, 573. A plan for a hundred rooms within five tents would cost more than a $1,000,000, and 150-room setup using the maximum allowed tents would certainly cost more than $1. 6 million, ” reports the Daily Mail.
Each proposed structure will be equipped with air conditioning units, restrooms, and showers.
The particular proposal comes as President Donald Trump floated a similar idea to an audience at an America First Policy Institute summit Tuesday.
“ The only way you’re going to remove the hundreds of thousands of people, and maybe throughout our own nation millions of people, and help to make our cities clean, safe and beautiful again, would be to open up large parcels associated with inexpensive land in the external reaches of the cities, ” Trump stated.

“ Bring medical professionals including doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, drug rehabilitation specialists. Permanent bathrooms as well as other facilities. Make them good. Make them fast. And create thousands and thousands associated with high-quality tents, which can be done in one day, ” Trump mentioned.
“ Some individuals say ‘ that’s horrible’. No, what’s horrible is what’s happening now. Since now they’re in tents but most of them aren’t actually tents that function. ”
