An additional University Reinstates Mask Mandate, Flouting CDC Recommendations

Vaccinated professors are allowed to remove their face covering in the classroom as long as students remain masked at Hillcrest State University

On August 15, North park State University (SDSU) reinstated a  mask mandate   to last until September 15 for those students and staff regardless of vaccination status.

The mandate applies to all instructional areas, including classrooms and libraries.

SDSU  NewsCenter   clarifies that this will not apply to educators in all configurations, writing that “[i]nstructional faculty, teaching assistants and interpreters who are completely up to date with their vaccinations can remove their facial coverings as long as students are disguised up in the classroom. ”

In a  statement   released by the university, SDSU explains the reasoning at the rear of the new mandate.

“ In light of recent increased COVID-19 transmission plus case counts in North park County and ahead of the forthcoming fall semester, the university or college is reimplementing its COVID-19 facial covering policy for that first few weeks of the semester. ”

SDSU’s mandate is inconsistent along with official CDC  recommendations , which only recommend requiring masks during ‘ High’ levels of community spread.

At  present , San Diego County’s community spread level can be ‘ Medium. ‘
