World’s Largest iPhone Factory within China Imposes Health Restrictions After COVID Flare-Up

COVID-19 restrictions imposed at plant for thousands and thousands of workers

The world’s largest apple iphone factory in the central Chinese language city of Zhengzhou imposed Covid-19 restrictions at the plant with regard to hundreds of thousands of workers. This comes as China has been grappling with a  Covid resurgence   in recent weeks.

Foxconn’s Zhengzhou campus has about 300, 000 workers — all of the have been banned from eating in public and must take meals back to their dorms for consumption, the  South China Morning Write-up   reported, citing a notice on the factory’s official WeChat account.

“ Foxconn’s Zhengzhou workers are just permitted to commute together certain routes within the campus, with many entrances closed inside a de facto lockdown, ” SCMP said. In an additional notice, workers living off campus were advised to move into on-site dormitories.

At least for the moment, production of iPhones in the Zhengzhou campus remains regular despite the newly enacted Covid restrictions, according to a Foxconn spokesman.

“ Production in the Zhengzhou campus continues to be normal, without a notable impact [from the Covid-19] circumstance, ” the  speaker said.

China has however to capitulate on its long-standing Zero-Covid policy (despite being a convenient scapegoat designed for Xi to deflect fury at the slowing economy during this month’s 20th party Congress). More than one million people were ordered to stay at home this week within the metro area surrounding the apple iphone campus.

The new measures arrive as the demand for the brand new iPhone appears to have worsened. The Information reported earlier immediately that  Apple slashed   iPhone 14 Plus production less than fourteen days after its debut.

SCMP said increasing infections of Covid are forcing some businesses to embrace so-called “ closed loop” systems, where workers live on campus and they are prohibited from physical connection with the outside world – including loved ones.

Zero-Covid provides dragged growth of the planet’s second-largest economy and roiled global supply chains. The good thing is the  reverse bullwhip effect   has left US retailers with big inventories, forcing container outlines to slash sails because US importers reduce deliveries from Asia.
