South Korea On Defensive After Secret Deal To Supply Sac For Ukraine Exposed

US official warns deal at this point in jeopardy after becoming open public.

South Korea is insistent that its official policy of not sending arms to the Ukraine conflict has remain unchanged, even as information is breaking of  a secret deal to sell one hundred, 000 artillery shells towards the United States, who then reportedly  intends to transfer these to Ukraine.  

News of the controversial deal was first reported in  The Wsj . “ Southern Korea will for the first time sell artillery shells destined meant for Ukrainian forces through a private arms deal between Seoul and Washington, a move that reflects a global scramble for munitions after a few months of  war with The ussr. ”

“ US officials familiar with the deal said that the U. Ersus.   will buy 100, 000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition that will be delivered to Ukraine , sufficient to supply Ukraine’s artillery devices for at least several weeks associated with intensive combat, ” the report continues.

A US official verified separately to  Reuters   on Fri that the Pentagon indeed programs to send the South Korean-manufactured shells to the Ukrainian military, utilizing the  Ukraine Safety Assistance Initiative (USAI).

And  curiously ,   “ The official warned that information of the talks being made public could threaten the deal. ”

The confidential plan being revealed has already put Seoul around the defensive, with South Korean military officials asserting how the “ confidential” negotiations had been being conducted  “ under the premise that the ALL OF US is the end user. ”

The protection ministry is framing this as making up for deficiencies in US stocks. “ In order to make up for the shortage associated with 155mm ammunition inventories in the US, negotiations are ongoing involving the US and Korean companies to export ammunition, ” a statement said. And  more :  

South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported on Friday that the country’s defence ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) Lee Jong-sup and ALL OF US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had “ agreed ‘ in principle’ in order to proceed with the artillery deal” during talks earlier this month.

“ But the allies are having related talks underneath the premise that the materials is going to be used by the US, ” Yonhap reported, citing a declaration from the country’s defence ministry.

Last month  South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s responded to warnings from Russia’s President Vladimir Putin that  arming Ukraine would kill bilateral ties .

“ We’ve provided humanitarian and peaceful assistance to Ukraine in solidarity with the worldwide community but never deadly weapons or any such things, ” Yoon said at the time. “ In any case, it’s a matter in our sovereignty, and I’d like you to know that we are trying to sustain peaceful and good relations with all countries around the world, which includes Russia. ”

Controversy has also raged concerning North Korea. Pyongyang offers long stood accused by Washington of doing secret weaponry transfers to the Russian military, something both sides possess denied. US intelligence offers charged that North Korea is seeking to carefully hide these shipments, however , there has been no evidence of such huge scale arms or artillery transfers.
