Twitter Stops Enforcing COVID-19 False information Policy

Company’s Covid-19 ‘misleading information’ policy nuked

Twitter will not enforce its Covid-19 misinformation policy, under which customers who deviated from existing establishment narratives frequently experienced their accounts locked or suspended.

The longstanding policy failed to apply to misinformation from government officials, who frequently lied about things such as transmission, face masks, vaccine efficacy, side effects, or any of the other ‘ science’ which usually turned out to be  patently false .

Twitter did not formally announce the change, rather, the company  additional a note   to some page on its web site outlining its Covid-19 plan.

“ Effective November 23, 2022, Tweets is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy, ” reads the note, which follows a line that still reads: “ Since the global community faces the COVID-19 pandemic together, Tweets is helping people discover reliable information, connect with other people, and follow what’s occurring in real time. ”

What’s more , Atmosphere News   reviews that the company’s Covid-19 ‘ misleading information’ policy was nuked, which showed how the company operated on a hit system in which those who had a label added to their tweets were given one strike, while those with deleted tweets were given two strikes. Users with two to three strikes would have the 12-hour lockout, while individuals with four strikes were completely suspended.

The platform suspended more than eleven, 000 accounts and eliminated nearly 98, 000 bits of content for violating the COVID misinformation policy in between January 2022 and September 2022, according to information released by Twitter.

The site also reduced the particular visibility of tweets or accounts believed to be in violation of the policy by ending tweets or retweets from those accounts appearing in some parts of Twitter, displaying their own replies in lower opportunities in conversations and not including their tweets or accounts from recommendations on the site. -Sky News

Of note, half of Twitter’s content moderation, human rights and communications teams were  laid off  when new owner Elon Musk took over. Hundreds more left after Musk issued an ultimatum to staff requiring them to sign up for “ long hours from high intensity” or depart.
