US Unveils First New Bomber Since Cold War

Each new B-21 Raider is expected to cost nearly $700 million.

The US Air Force unveiled a new strategic stealth bomber on Friday, the first within 30 years. With an estimated price of more than half a billion bucks, the B-21 Raider offers yet to make its maiden flight.

The Northrop Grumman bomber, which is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons, was showcased in a wedding ceremony at Air Force Place 42 in Palmdale, Ca. The event was attended simply by high-ranking Pentagon officials, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

Austin tx hailed the B-21 Raider as  “ the particular embodiment of America’s perseverance to defend the republic that individuals all love, ”   adding:   “ This is deterrence the particular American way. ”

When the get the Raider was first introduced in 2015, then-Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James claimed that the US needs a new bomber  “ that would allow all of us to take on much more complicated dangers, like the threats that we panic we would one day face through China, Russia. ”

The on stealth bomber is expected to create its maiden flight within 2023. The US Air Push originally hoped that the airplane would take to the heavens as early as 2019, but was postponed to December 2021, then to mid-2022.

It was initially projected to cost $550 million each, but over the years, the price tag swelled to $692 million due to inflation. In total, the Air Power plans to procure at least hundred of the planes. In 2021, Bloomberg reported that the total cost for supporting the development, procurement, and operation of the B-21 program will probably cost taxpayers at least $203 billion over 30 years.

In April 2022, however , commenting on the improvement of the B-21 project, ALL OF US Congressman Adam Smith, who also chairs the House Armed Solutions Committee, said the Air Power seems to have  “ learned the lessons”   from the F-35 plan – which became well known for greatly exceeding the budget. The Government Accountability Office warned in 2021 that will annual cost overruns for the whole military could near $6 billion by 2036.
