Patriotic Brits gamely drank their way out of an economic slump throughout the World Cup, new numbers have shown.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the economy grew very slightly simply by 0. 1 per cent in November, defying forecasts of a 0. 2 percent shrinkage to put the UK into a technical recession .
That growth had been partly credited to football fans packing into cafes to watch the Globe Cup tournament in Qatar, held afterwards in the year than normal to avoid the sweltering high temperature of the Persian Gulf summer.
“ The economy grew a little within November, with increases in telecommunications and computer programming assisting to push the economy ahead, ” said ONS movie director of economic statistics Darren Morgan. “ Cafes and bars also did well since people went out to watch Entire world Cup games. ”
But he declared that boost only partly offset the losses caused by the national holiday called for late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service in September.
Morgan said the economy would have to shrink by 0. 6 percent in December for that UK to be declared inside a technical recession.
The country is currently suffering a cost-of-living crisis. Double-digit inflation has been fuelled by the power crisis due to sanctions plus embargoes on Russia over its military de-Nazification procedure in Ukraine — on which the government has led the charge.
Which has sparked a wave of strikes as state and personal employers’ wage offers neglect to keep up with rising prices.
