Cali. Bill Proposes Fines, Jail Time for Those Who Harass Teachers Over Gender Ideology Teaching
SB 596 makes it a misdemeanor offense punishable by a $500-$1,000 fine, or jail time for anyone who subjects teachers to ‘threats or harassment.’
A proposed bill in California would essentially make it illegal to criticize teachers for teaching gender ideology.
SB 596 makes it a misdemeanor offense punishable by a fine of $500 to $1,000 and/or up to one year in jail for anyone who subjects teachers to “threats or harassment” on or off-campus.
The bill defines “harassment” as “knowing and willful course of conduct directed at a specific person that seriously alarms, annoys, or harasses the person, and that serves no legitimate purpose.”

In a press release last week, bill author Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–Burbank) said he introduced SB 596 in response to a recent incident in which a teacher who had talked “to students about LGBTQ Pride Month” was relocated to another school after receiving threats.
“Teachers are being intimidated and harassed for doing their jobs,” Portantino stated. “SB 596 will ensure that educators can safely continue to be educators, helping their students thrive unencumbered by fear and intimidation.”
One teacher cited in the press release, Glendale Unified School District teacher Patrick Davarhanian, claimed educators were under assault by “radical extremists” who want “to ban books” and censor the teachings of “accurate and honest history.”
“These extremist elements are targeting the core tenants of inclusive public education and using threats of violence to achieve their means,” the teacher continued. “We must stand with our educators, protect our students, and defend public education.”
Another educator cited in the press release, Glendale Unified School District teacher Gagik Galfayan, claimed educators have been facing an “outpouring of hate and intolerance” for “teaching honest, accurate history, and fostering inclusive classrooms.”
Across the country, left-leaning teachers appear be taking an interest in indoctrinating students into the LGBT cult, as documented profusely by Twitter account @LibsofTikTok.
The bill comes as more parents are attending school board meetings and becoming increasingly vocal about LGBTQ, gender ideology and Critical Race Theory teachings covertly being injected in curriculums by leftist educators in public schools across the nation.
